for chamber orchestra, twelve voices, and three singers

Based on Lung Ying-tai’s first novel, 大武山下, A Fate So Fleeting, A Love So Deep sets ten lyrics by Chung Yung-feng in eleven movements for three singers, twelve voices, and orchestra. A woman in her sixties, living at the foot of Mount Dawu, meets a child who never grew past fourteen. Between the living and the dead, the forest and the names of its trees, the music holds the book’s central line: every bond was brief, and every love was deep.
